In this day and age
In a place where we are supposed to feel safe
We are threatened
By the ghosts of the past influencing the present
Where we’re differentiated by the color of our skin rather than the color of our soul
Where we’re laughing, living loving,
But inside we’re crying, dying, hating
But at the same time there are those of us who are trying to tough it out
Trying to change us all
Trying to make the world a better place
Trying to make us all feel better,
About who we were…but that’s not who we are now
We’re changing, whether it’s for best or for worse
We’re changing
